RDC No. 429 - Significant Changes in Food Labeling

The Collegiate Board of Directors Resolution - RDC No. 429, has brought significant changes to food labeling in Brazil. These measures aim to improve the information available to consumers, especially regarding the presence of allergenic ingredients in food products.

One of the main changes introduced by RDC No. 429 concerns the mandatory declaration of the presence of allergens on food labels. Previously, the law only required information about the most common allergens, such as wheat, milk, and soy. Now, the list of allergens that need to be declared has been expanded to include other foods such as nuts, peanuts, fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, among others.

Another important change is the enlargement of the font size to be used in food labeling. From now on, the minimum font size must be 1.2 mm, ensuring better readability of information for consumers.

RDC No. 429 also brings innovations regarding how nutritional information should be presented on food labels. From now on, nutritional information must be presented in a clearer and more understandable manner, including daily reference values for the main vitamins and minerals present in the product.

It is important to emphasize that the labeling changes brought by RDC No. 429 aim to ensure clearer and more accurate information for consumers, helping them make more conscious and healthy choices. These measures are welcome and should be followed by food manufacturers to ensure food safety and consumer health.
